Computers have become an essential part of every business, but it can
be difficult to manage them all if you have multiple computers in your
office. When you have to install software, update programs, and
troubleshoot problems, you can easily spend a large part of your time
sitting behind the screen. Fortunately, there are some things you can do
to make maintaining your company's computers go much more smoothly.
Provide Training for Employees
One
of the best ways to keep computers running smoothly is to train
employees on how to maintain their computers properly. Teach them the
basics about how to identify programs that they should avoid, such as
those that might contain malware.
Give them a list of quality sites
related to your industry that you know can be trusted with downloads and
content. Teach them how to install updates and when to run their
antivirus programs. By teaching them to help you, everyone's computers
will run more smoothly, which will require less interference from you.
You
should make sure that your employees have the proper information they
need in order to store large files. Some employees are nervous about
keeping all of their data on the computer, but they don't know where
else to put it. They may also need to have access to work documents
while they are at home, or they may need to transfer very large files.
Invest in a program that allows them to access documents from multiple
computers, or create a section in Google Docs that they can use to
access their information. This will also prevent your servers from being
bogged down with data, which can slow down everyone's computer
operations.
Work Remotely
If you are in
charge of working on everyone's computers, it is a good idea to set it
up so that you can access each computer from your desktop. This will
allow you to run updates, install programs, scan for viruses and
troubleshoot all from your desk. If you have been asked to monitor what
other employees are doing on their computers, you can also do that using
these remote programs. You can even find software that will let you
reboot other computers remotely for quick and easy repairs.
